In 2022, the CDC extended the BMI-for-age percentile curves for children and teens with high BMIs (above the 97th percentile for sex and age. The categories are identified as:

  • Underweight – Less than the 5th percentile
  • Healthy Weight – 5th percentile to less than the 85th percentile
  • Overweight – 85th percentile to less than the 95th percentile
  • Obesity – 95th percentile or greater
  • Severe Obesity – 120% of the 95th percentile or greater, or 35 kg/m² or greater
  • The reporting area will include the new information. It will take care of the calcuations, the plotting, the charting, and the referral letter.

    New Training Module

The Texas Risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes in Children (TRAT2DC) training has now been updated to include the new BMI category. The training now includes a new module on reporting basics. The new module will cover the reporting area with some detail including pictures. It will be helpful for those who are new to these risk assessments.

For those with current certification, please continue as usual. Re-certification is not necessary, but it can be updated at any time.
